Central Pennsylvania Engage Conference

17th October, 2012 - Posted by Claire Larsen - No Comments

During the weekend of November 8-9, 2012, the Engage Conference is being held at the West Shore Evangelical Free Church. This conference is for anyone (pastors, Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, kids’ clubs leader) who work with children from nursery age through high school. Churches leaders from all over central Pennsylvania will be attending.

I am excited to be teaching two workshops at that conference. In the first workshop, “Daily Life In Jesus Times,” I will talk about the political, religious, and daily life in Galilee. Understanding these factors will help the workshop attendees make the gospel stories come alive so that children can picture the world in which Jesus lived. What did Jesus eat? In what kind of house did Jesus live? Who were the Pharisees and what were the synagogues and where did from come from?

The other workshop, “Teaching the Bible as God’s Redemptive Story,” focuses on the truth that the Bible is God’s story of His great redemptive love.  The Bible is one primary story with God as the main character.  The story of  redemption begins in Genesis 3:15 and continues throughout the whole Bible to the end of Revelation. And, all through the Old Testament we see pictures pointing to Jesus, the Savior. When we read this Bible this way, all the individual stories in the Bible have a unity that presents a message of God’s great love for His people.

The Engage Conference has 65 workshops as well as inspiring plenary sessions. I’m excited to speak and invite any of you who live nearby to be a part of this conference.
